In 1991, the Stern and Weil families joined forces and formed Weil Brothers & Stern Ltd.,
a global force in cotton and a company dedicated to quality and high standards in the
cotton trade. The Stern family started in the cotton business in England in 1866 and the Weil family, whose cotton company was founded in the cotton heartland of the USA, in 1878.
Together with our US affiliate, Weil Brothers-Cotton Inc. of Montgomery, Alabama, Weil Brothers & Stern Ltd. buys cotton from virtually every growing country and ships and sells to virtually every consuming country, utilising our world-wide network of offices and agents, with many of whom we have been working for several generations.
The main base of the company is in Birkenhead, UK, in our new purpose-built offices, "Cotton Wharf", on the banks of the River Mersey, directly facing the world-famous Liverpool waterfront - an important landmark in the history of cotton. Weil Brothers-Cotton Inc. handles the sales and administration of all US, Central and South American, and Chinese growths, and oversees the operations of their active Australian office. Our main office in Birkenhead, together with our office in Paris, are responsible for the sourcing and sale of cottons from the rest of the world.
